The Kinetic Sculpture The kids in Mr. B and Mrs. Holum’s 5th
grade class at Mt. View School made a Kinetic Sculpture. The idea came
from Wally Stokes a parent of one of the girls in the class to make
a Kinetic Sculpture because the theme of the schools science fair is
Young Da Vinci fair and as you know if you ever been to Da Vinci Days,
they have a contest to see who has the best kinetic sculpture. He took
this idea to his daughter’s class and they thought it was a great idea.
The kids decided to make a dragon that fire came out its nose. So after the idea was chosen, they got
straight to work getting the mechanics figure out and deciding to make
the skin out of paper-mache. First the class made the structure out
of pipe. Then they covered the structure in chicken wire. Once all of
that was finished, they started on the paper-mache. Lani Hudson (a parent)
was nice enough to help with this part of the project. Finally the paper-mache
was done which was good because, the Science Fair was getting close
so now they could start on the painting. The dragon was painted green
with dark green scales. The paper mache broke in one spot so they made
a cut there. The kids painted right to the deadline. On the night of the Science Fair the dragon
was finished after a VERY hard time of trying to get the project to
the school gym where one of the legs was damaged in the moving. The
Dragon was a big hit until one of the wheels broke because of the weight
of the person inside. |

Cooking
|
Eggs In A Basket 1. Heat a griddle on medium temperature until
a drop of water sizzles 2. Take a piece of bread
and cut the center out with a cookie cuter, a simple one works best. 3. Butter one side of
the bread an put it on the griddle. 4. After the bread has
been on the griddle for one minute crack an egg and put in the center
of the bread (the part that has been cut out). 5. Let that cook until
the white (part around the yoke) is all white then flip. 6. After you have flipped
it let cook for 2 minutes and serve. |
Plum Ice Cream 1. Puree 1 ½ cups of plum by cooking them until soft, and passing them through a food mill or pureeing them in a food processor. Measure 1 ½ cups of puree and put it in a bowl, ad 1 cup and 2 tablespoons sugar, and stir until the sugar is dissolved. It is best to do this while puree is still warm, but it can be done when cool. 2.
Put the ice cream in another
bowl and add the remaining ½ cup sugar and the vanilla. Stir until the
sugar is dissolved. Combine both mixtures and stir well. Freeze ice
cream in an ice-cream freezer according to the directions. |
