Dear Mom and Dad,

     A Camp Song Once said

“I’ve got cuts on my fingers and bites on my toes, sticks and stones to sleep on and a red, red sunburned nose”

To some existent that is true, but they should add that our feet stink, our hair is greasy and we all smell horrible. Today, luckily we got to take showers, I was so happy.  Then we went swimming and we are cooking out.  Still having LOTS of fun.  We are doing two plays.

     Love,

       Cory

Summer Camp

Sorry, I you did not get a Vineyard Mountain Gazette last week for I was at Girl Scout Camp. I went to Camp Whispering Winds a girl Scout Camp in Kings Valley.  Many girls Scouts go to this Camp every year, I been going there for 3 years.  I would have gone last year, and made it four years in a row, but there was a mountain lion nearby and they had to close the camp. Most of the girls, like me pay for the Camp fee with their Cookie Money which they earned from that years Cookie sale. Some girls that go, however aren’t girl scouts and they have to pay a bit more to get in. The Camp is not just used in the Summer, it is also used in fall and spring, I went there for the Junior Girl Scouting event and other troops pay to use the Camp. I also heard that once Boy Scouts rented it for a meeting.        Have a Summer Camp experience you would Like to share in the V.M.G.? SAND DOLLAR COOKIES
Makes about 15 cookies

For variations on these cookies, try adding lemon zest, dipping them in chocolate, or sandwiching two of them together with jam.

3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1/3 cup confectioners’ sugar
3 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon coarse salt
1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 large egg
Sliced blanched almonds, for decorating
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1. Cut two pieces of parchment or waxed paper into 12-by-20-inch rectangles. Set aside. In the bowl of a heavy-duty electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, mix together butter, confectioners’ sugar, and 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar on medium-low speed. Add vanilla extract; mix until just combined.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together salt and flour. With mixer on low speed, gradually add flour to butter mixture. Mix dough, scraping down sides of bowl once or twice, until just combined.

3. Transfer dough to center of one of the reserved pieces of parchment paper. Place second piece of reserved parchment paper directly over dough. Shape dough into a round. On a flat surface, roll dough to 1/8-inch thickness. Chill until firm on a baking sheet, about 1 hour.

4. Heat oven to 325°. In a small bowl, whisk egg together with 1 teaspoon cold water. Set aside. Line two baking pans with Silpats. Set aside.

5. Remove chilled dough from refrigerator, and place on a flat surface. Remove parchment paper from surface of dough, and reserve. Using a 3 1/2-inch round cutter, cut out dough rounds, and transfer to prepared baking pans spaced about 2 inches apart. Lightly brush tarts with egg wash, and decorate with three sliced almonds.

6. In a small bowl, combine remaining 2 tablespoons sugar with cinnamon. Sprinkle over tarts.

7. Bake until light golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes. Transfer tarts to a wire rack to cool.

8. Reroll remaining dough between reserved parchment to 1/8-inch thickness, and chill until firm, about 1 hour. Repeat steps 5, 6, and 7 with chilled dough.

Yoga

My Parents take exercise Classes at the Health Club, the class before their class was a Yoga Class. My dad used to call them the nappers because they would play soothing music and most of the stretches are on the ground. Then he started yoga and he found it was quite hard when you are in a position that you’re not used to for 3 minutes.  There is a Yoga Center in downtown Corvallis where classes from beginner to advance are taught.

Consider This Therapy
The age-old set of exercises known in the West as "yoga" offers a significant variety of proven health benefits. It increases the efficiency of the heart and slows the respiratory rate, improves fitness, lowers blood pressure, promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and allays anxiety. It also serves to improve coordination, posture, flexibility, range of motion, concentration, sleep, and digestion. It can be used as supplementary therapy for conditions as diverse as cancer, diabetes, arthritis, asthma, migraine, and AIDS, and helps to combat addictions such as smoking. It is not, in itself, a cure for any medical ailment.
